Training the next generation of Orthodontic Technicians
Its Finally Happening!
I started my orthodontic career in 1994 as an Orthodontic Assistant. While I was in college to get my BS in Biology, I worked as an in-house lab tech/ assistant for a local orthodontist. I considered opening my own ortho lab was frustrated with the lack of education for the ortho lab industry,
I was stuck.
Luckily, after I graduated undergrad I found a Dental Laboratory School 3 hours away from me where I found the education I needed to open my own orthodontic lab and even pass the rigorous CDT exam for dental technicians! I graduated 2.5 year later with the highest GPA in my in my lab school, I had truly found my passion!
After graduating the lab school I obtained my CDT with a specialty in orthodontics opened my own little laboratory in my house. Not long after that I merged my lab with a crown and bridge lab and created an ortho lab department for that lab. I also worked as a lab manager in a larger orthodontic lab where I helped to train new technicians.
I made a promise that once I got to the point I could give back to to the ortho lab community I would help others that struggled like me to find education, skills and mentorship! In 2007 I created my Youtube channel RetainerDesigner where I made videos about how to make orthodontic appliances, workflow and tips and tricks of the orthodontic lab. I even created a blog to go with that channel DesignerRetainer.com.
But my true passion was to create a school that will help those that struggled like I did in the early days of my career. Many of you might not be near a Dental lab school (There are fewer and fewer of those each year) and if you are close to one, you might not be a place where you can quit work and become a full time student. There are just a handful of books that cover this subject. There are Youtube videos (Like mine 🙂 but sometimes you just need to ask someone a question that a video cannot answer. Apprenticeship at an ortho lab might be out of the question because there might not be one close by (there are only about 1000 in the United States) ,and there is no guarantee that you will receive the training you need to advance your career.
So I am finally doing it, I’m building an online course …
I am actively building this course, but I need your help

Helps those in the Orthodontic Industry that want to pursue a career to the in the Ortho laboratory sector that are frustrated with not having the required education, skills, experience or mentorship to advance their career into being one of the rare technicians to:
- become a Certified Dental Technician in Orthodontics,
- advance career at a current ortho lab (or in-house lab)
- or even open their own orthodontic lab!
